Project Title:

Regional Tourism Service and Strategy

Project Organization:

Strathcona Regional District

Project Investment:

  • Island Coastal Economic Trust: $18,524
  • Strathcona Regional District: $18,524
  • Total Budget: $37,048

The Strathcona Regional District is a world-class tourism destination with unique ecological, historical and cultural assets. Yet, despite the quality tourism experiences available, the area tourism industry lacked a regional focus which weakened their ability to grow and diversify their economy.

The regional tourism service and strategy project, seeks to evaluate the current value of tourism-related economic activity by providing benchmarks to comparable regions. With the help of industry professionals, the project will identify the specific needs of community-based, rural and First Nations tourism as well as the role of the regional district. Ultimately, a regional tourism model will be developed by integrating local needs, regional needs and potential synergies with partners.

The project is currently underway.  It is anticipated that with this knowledge, support and cooperation, the Strathcona Regional District will develop the appropriate function to enable stronger growth and diversification opportunities for communities and business.

Island Coastal Economic Trust funded this project on 2014 through the Investment Readiness program.
